Recently, one of our favorite weekend activities has been to explore some awesome hikes here on the island. The last one we did with our group of friends was the Pali hike, and it was definitely one of our favorites!

Pali Lookout HawaiiTo access the Pali hike you will need to go to the Pali lookout. The Pali lookout itself is a popular tourist attraction; it gives off gorgeous views and holds a lot of ancient Hawaiian history. You actually need to cut through and walk up the side of the mountain for this one….right pass the “Area Closed! Do Not Go Beyond This Point” sign. Whoops.

The hike isn’t too hard in terms of being strenuous, but there are some areas where you are more so taking big steps and crawling on your hands, rather than just walking up a slope. It also didn’t help that when we went it just rained and was extremely muddy. Going up wasn’t too bad, but we all slipped and slid on our butts a few times coming down.

Not too far up (15 min?) you get to the top in a sort of flat land area, and it provides some pretty insane views!

While we brought our dog Buddy on this hike, he was pretty tired after the first resting point. Although he was ok, I ultimately wouldn’t recommend bringing a dog on this route as it involves a bit of climbing. We also continued to the ridge area, and since it’s a lot of near vertical rock climbing, we tied Buddy up in the shade with water at the first stop, and he rested while we finished up the hike.

Climbing up to the top of the first ridge again wasn’t hard, and the views are impeccable. We were also pleasantly surprised with an area that had a rope that you could climb down and continue on to the next ridge! Although the drop looks far in pictures, it wasn’t anything too dangerous. We didn’t continue on to the rest of the ridge lines because of Buddy, but it was a super fun hike! What’s one of your favorite hikes you’ve been on?
