Afternoon Tea at The Veranda – Kahala Hotel & Resort

The Kahala Resort Afternoon Tea Veranda

The Kahala Resort Afternoon Tea VerandaA few years ago my mother-in-law introduced me to the indulgent delight that is afternoon tea. After a few dates of throwing on our biggest hats and raising our pinkies high into the sky, tea time has become one of my favorite pastimes, and I wanted to share that experience with my closest friends.

To get away from the daily grind, my two best friends and I decided to make a habit of planning a monthly girls day out. For our first outing we headed over one Sunday afternoon to the beautiful Kahala Hotel & Resort for some afternoon tea.

To be honest, I didn’t even know The Kahala Resort existed; it was such a hidden gem! Away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, yet only a short drive from down town, it’s in a fabulous location. The resort itself was beautiful; I definitely want to plan an upcoming stay!

Upon entrance is The Veranda, an outdoor seating dining area that overlooks the pools and dolphin lagoon. Yes, we watched dolphins frolic while sipping tea and eating scones. Bliss.

We all chose to do the classic tea service, including a pot of tea, 2 scones, 4 savory sandwiches, and 4 beautifully crafted desserts each. For $30 a person it was extremely reasonable, and absolutely delicious.

We each chose a different flavor of Harney & Sons tea, sampling a variety of the 10 or so offerings. Cream and sugar cubes were included. (I love sugar cubes!) The scones (plain and cranberry) came with jam and clotted cream. We all never had clotted cream before, and let’s just say it was pretty life changing.

Roast Chicken Salad, Smoked Salmon and Three Caviar Creme Fraiche, Shaved Serrano Ham & Truffled Manchego Cheese, and Asparagus Mimosa.

Raspberry Dark Chocolate Tart, Lilikoi Meringue Tart, Coconut French Macaroon, and Macadamia Nut Fancier Rum Cake.

The sandwiches were all pretty delicious but my favorites included the smoked salmon and shaved serrano ham. All the desserts were sinfully sweet; my favorite dessert would have to be the Lilikoi Meringue Tart. I also must add that I was happily full by the end of our brunch; each category was supplied with just the right amount of portions.

We were so pleased with our first girls outing at The Kahala Hotel & Resort. It was such a beautiful and peaceful setting, and we definitely want to plan a return visit!
