My 4th of July weekends for the past few years have been pretty ‘lax. When you’re younger, it’s all about the fireworks, but getting older mixed with the recent firework ban throughout the state (you need a permit; lame!) has generally led me to do the typical backyard barbecue and booze with family. While that never gets olds, I sought out to make 4th of July 2015 a bit more eventful, and it was definitely one for the books!
Jarden and I were lucky enough to be able to crash at our friends hotel for the weekend. Sounds like the beginning of a hotel party rager doesnt it? Well it wasn’t. (It was actually a pretty PG family affair that we just happened to intrude on). Our friends got a room at The Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, which is one of my favorite hotels to staycation at!
The Hilton always instills luxury and class to those who hear it, but what I especially love about the Waikiki resort is it’s proximity to the beach. Right in the heart of Waikiki, you can walk through the resort and end up smack dab in the middle of tourist occupied sand and sea. The resort is definitely a crowd pleaser, offering peculiar cultural statues, koi fishponds, and a couple of lagoons ideal for water activities (SUP Yoga anyone?). Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki also holds true to it’s luxury roots, sporting a number of high end retail shops and restaurants to peruse though. We definitely recommend heading to Lappert’s for some delicious ice cream; it’s a must if staying at the resort!
One of my highlights for the weekend was definitely watching the fireworks show that The Hilton puts on every 4th of July. Hundreds of people come out to watch it every year, and it was actually my first time seeing it from the resort. You have a perfect view of the 15 minute show on the sand right next to the lagoon; it was beautiful!
What set this weekend apart though was the epic 4th of July Floatilla fail that occurred on Saturday. (Flotilla is a huge annual event where everyone gets together on water floaties). It was such a hilarious yet ridiculous mishap, that I’m going to be doing a whole post dedicated to it in the upcoming weeks. Just know that hard cider, Zac Efron, and trying to swim a mile out into the open ocean on a slice of pizza do NOT mix well.
If you ever come to Hawaii around 4th of July, I’d definitely recommend staying at The Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Resort. How do you like to celebrate 4th of July?
