Our visit to Berlin in December gave us a brief glimpse of the amazing food scene and festive night life – we left wanting so much more and hope to return someday soon! We used the Visit Berlin Welcome Cards during our stay, which gave us free transportation throughout the city. I love skipping the hassle of buying individual metro tickets, such a time saver.

We wanted a good look into the history of Berlin, so we went on a free walking tour with Sandemans New Berlin. They hold numerous free walking tours throughout a lot of Europe, and we learned so much about the history of Berlin for free! (Of course, please remember to tip your tour guide!) Here are some of the most famous spots we visited during our stay!

5 Places You Can’t Miss in Berlin, Germany

with Visit Berlin

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie Germany

Checkpoint Charlie was known to be the most famous crossing of East and West Berlin. It’s nothing really special in terms of appearance, hardly discernible even, but a spot for a big turning point in history!

The Holocaust Memorial

The Memorial of the Murdered Jews

Murdered Jews Memorial Berlin Germany

Also known as the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, this beautiful installment is made of thousands of concrete slabs, offering a place to reflect or explore as the school kids do. The memorial is huge and definitely worth a walkthrough.

The Berlin Wall

Berlin Wall Germany

Famous for dividing east and west of Berlin, little remains of the wall today. (You can still see where the wall used to be though!)

TV Tower

This spot is perfect if you want a birds eye view of Berlin – we heard that the sight is spectacular!
