Jarden and I tend to jam pack activities into our itinerary like there’s no tomorrow. At the end of our Portland trip we had a 12 hour layover in Seattle, and we definitely made the most of it! If you are trying to cram a bunch of the city’s highlights in one day, this is definitely doable. (Or you an pick and choose for a more relaxed pace!)
How to Spend A 12 Hour Layover in Seattle
Check out the Space Needle
Definitely Seattle’s most iconic landmark, this observation tower is a must do for many tourists. We personally found the attraction a bit underwhelming, but it was still cool to check off the list!

Marvel at Chihuly Garden & Glass
Contrary to the Space Needle, we unexpectedly fell in love with Chihuly’s glass exhibit! Chihuly’s glass work was fascinating, and it’s definitely a must-see in our opinion.

Stroll through the EMP Museum
A fun way to kill a few hours in Seattle is to visit The EMP Musuem, a mecca of pop culture goodness that will satisfy all of your horror/music/fantasy/gamer cravings.
Visit Pike’s Place Market
A public market at Seattle’s famous waterfront, come here to see local handmade items, fresh fruits, flowers, and giant fish fly through the air! (*Tip: You can see the workers toss fish back and forth if someone buys a fish, or sometimes if a donation is made!)
Contribute to the Gum Wall
Some people find it disgusting, but we found it fascinating! I was stoked to have finally visited the infamous gum wall and contribute my piece. (It’s also right below Pike’s Place Market, so you might as well go visit!)
