Uni pasta, a mysterious dish that has recently been all the rage. Although I’m an avid seafood lover, I’ve never eaten sea urchin, and so I thought it was finally time to bite the bullet. Treating myself to a fancy birthday dinner, I reserved a table for two at Arancino on Beachwalk in Waikiki.
Arancino on Beachwalk is one of three Arancino restaurants here in Hawaii, the other two locations being Arancino at the Kahala, and the original Arancino di Mare. While there are numerous restaurants here that I’ve heard serve uni, this one was highly rated on Yelp, and was even offering a coupon on the Yelp app. Winner Winner Sea Urchin Dinner!
The quaint restaurant gave off a nice Italian vibe that was similar to what we experienced in Rome. The wait wasn’t too long for being so crowded, and we were treated to some yummy bread with EVOO and balsamic. I must add though that the seating arrangements were very tight. Although it didn’t bother us, it might bother some that you can reach out and touch the food of your neighbors.
Jarden started off with a salad, the Insalata Mista, which he really enjoyed. I started off with a sinfully rich lobster bisque with sherry. (Zuppa di Aragosta) All of the calories for the birthday girl!
Their famous uni pasta (Spaghetti ai Ricci di Mare) was served in a sweet garlic wine cream sauce. Seriously, one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had! Uni is hard to describe; it’s rich and creamy, but also really tastes like it came straight from the ocean. It’s not fishy though; you just need to try it for yourself!
Arancino on Beachwalk (and their famous uni dish!) really lived up to the hype for me, and I definitely want to come back! The portions of the food are nice, the quality of the food is great, and we had great service. I’ll be dreaming about that delicious uni until I return!
